Jack Merritt’s father pays tribute to ‘exceptional’ son

The father of Jack Merritt, one of the two victims of the London Bridge at-tack, has paid tribute to his “inspirational” son on social media.

David Merritt said that Jack was a “beautiful spirit” who “lived his beliefs” and that he was learning new things about his son through the tributes paid to him online.

Writing on Twitter on Saturday, Mr Merritt said: “My son, Jack, who was kil-led in this at-tack, would not wish his dea-th to be used as the pretext for more draconian sentences or for detaining people unnecessarily.

“R.I.P Jack: you were a beautiful spirit who always took the side of the underdog.”

Jack, 25, from Cambridge, was the course coordinator of the Cambridge University Learning Together pri-son rehabilitation programme.
